Bearded Dragons are native from Australia. They are commonly known as beardies. It is the most popular choice when having reptile in the home as your pet. The bearded dragons are very sociable animals and friendly to humans and other animals.

Taking care of them takes a lot of responsibilities and one should serve as a mother to them adapting into a new environment. Deciding this to be your pet would be a great idea. You can find beardies in many pet stores and houses, some of them can be purchased.

Proper planning, Care and Final decision making are the requirements when you want to adopt a bearded dragon pet.  I provided some guidelines to those who aspire to have a new family member. One should know these guidelines first to fully understand the considerations on having a baby bearded dragon.

These are the following guidelines:

Guideline 1

There is an increase food to support the rapid growth rate of baby bearded dragons. This is the first thing that you should know; baby beardies needs a lot of foods for growth and development. From 3- 6 weeks let your baby eat for about 2-3 times a day.

You must give your pet small crickets not the big ones; it might cause aspiration because they still have small organs. Mixed it with vegetables and green leafy vegetables. Do not forget to give water every after meal.

RULE OF THUMB: The rule of thumb is the basis of the amount of food for bearded dragons. Take a look the distance between the dragon’s two eyes, the amount of food must be half size of it. If one will follow the rule of thumb correctly, your bearded dragon will not suffer from terminal indigestion.

Guideline 2

Regularly, check the body of your bearded dragon if there are parasites. Let us just be sure even though when you bought it its parasite-free. Parasite infestation can happen anytime in the bearded dragon’s life, they may be acquiring it from the foods they are eating each and every day.

Guideline 3

The third guideline must be the space of the beardie. For a baby bearded dragon, it must have a 10 gallon tank size. After six months increase the size up to 20 gallon, the bearded dragon this time has grown bigger in size. When it reaches adulthood, it must now be 50 gallon in size. The space must be spacious enough for the dragon to exercise and bask.

Guideline 4

Cleanliness and Orderliness are the two most important things in a baby bearded dragons tank. Regularly clean the tank and make it in order to prevent health related problems. As much as possible when you can see any debris inside it, clear it right away. Baby bearded dragons are susceptible to illnesses and diseases; the immune system is not that improved much. The first few months of a bearded dragons life needs ample time of care.

Guideline 5

Temperature must also be considered. It must be control properly, one end must be warm enough, this is where a bearded dragon will bask and lie, and another end must be a little cooler for them to cool down their body when they feel warm. To do this, you must have a temperature gradient.

Guideline 6

Install a UV light. The bearded dragon is used to light emitted by the sun. UV light must be around in the tank, it will help them to have a normal digestion. You should adjust to your bearded dragon not the beardie will adjust on to you, create an environment that they are used to.

Guideline 7

Paper towels are recommended as substrates for your cute little beardies. It is easy to replace and clean to look at.

Guideline 8

Have time for your bearded dragon every day. You serve as second parents to them. Bonding time is important so that the bearded dragon will build trust on you. Do not pick them up with their tail, they might become aggressive and will not like you. Have gentle caring hands while handling them.
