The Leucistic Bearded Dragon

Leucistic bearded dragon is another type of bearded dragon and is commonly called frost dragons.  It is an interesting morph, they look like white but actually these kind of bearded dragons are colorless.

The gene of a frost bearded dragon is a simple gene carried by both of the parents. It is passed through an offspring for expression. The leucistics have been selectively bred to have no color, but it is exposed to a gene called hypo gene that has a characteristic in reducing the dark pigment and leaving a white color.

The nails of this pet beardie are clear; this is the most distinguishable characteristic of a leucistic bearded dragon.

Breeding leucistic bearded dragons is not an easy job, the only way to have them is to choose carefully bearded dragon that carries the specific single gene. What you are going to do is to look for another beardie that also contains a single gene.

If you are lucky to find the two to be paired, then you will have a frost dragon. One cannot produce a leucistic bearded dragon if the male or the female has a heterozygous gene, meaning it carries various genes. Both of the parents must have it so that the characteristics of a leucistic bearded dragon will be retained.

Frost bearded dragons are indeed a treasure to the family of bearded dragons. They are indeed a distinction to the family of beardies. It is always been said that the more the better. So, the leucistic bearded dragon is such a blessing.
